Nigerian Soccer Team Suspended by The President

A spokesperson for Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said that The country’s national soccer team has been suspended by Nigerian president from international matches until 2012 after its poor showing at the World Cup. During the suspension The Nigeria Football Federation plans to rebuild the team through friendly matches.

Jonathan also stated that all funds directed towards the Nigeria Football Federation would be checked to see if they were used accurately.

The Nigerian team was eliminated from the World Cup 2010 with a record of a draw and 2 losses in the group league matches. It was considered one of the strongest in Africa.

FIFA seems to refuse to the decision by the Nigerian leader because FIFA statutes prosecute national soccer federations operate free of political interference. Observers said FIFA might give penalties on Nigeria, including a ban from participating in world football and also fines.
